Hi ladies,
About 2 years out of college I was recruited to the AGD
House Association Board and much to my surprise I'm still on
it :) so I can probably give you more history than you want
but I'm going to keep this short as possible. I know many of
you haven’t been in touch for a number of years with AGD. I
wanted to take the time to give you a quick update of the
chapter/house if you’re interested in its past activity. No
worries if you’re not interested, this is more of a FYI than
anything else. And even if you’re not Epsilon Gamma this
update is for you too!
First the chapter is considered dormant for this academic
year and next. The reasons for this was summarized by
Teressa Gehrke in the newsletter that was recently emailed
(coming soon to this website) but basically membership
dropped so quickly that there was no way to keep a chapter
thriving. Plans are in place with DU and HQ to re-colonize
the chapter in 2010-2011 and start over with a clean slate!
We’ve come across some hard decisions on what to do with the
structure of the house since it’s without a chapter to
generate income and the board owns it. And one might think
this would be an easy process to figure out but much to our
dismay it has been a massive task due to our 501c2 IRS tax
status. In February we sought investors to purchase the
property with the intent to rent back to the chapter when it
re-colonizes at DU. In the past month we had offers to buy
it from four investors and one management company and one
fraternity to rent it back. We voted to rent the house to
Sigma Chi who asked for a 3 year lease. We are still in
negotiations but this avenue appears to be the best route
for the future of the chapter.
On April 2 at 6:30pm the Annual House Association Meeting
will be at the house. As alumnae you are welcome and
encouraged to attend. We have brief official business to
conduct and then are opening it up for question/answers
about the chapter, house, etc. so you can become familiar
with events past.
In short, when the chapter re-colonizes after formal
recruitment (rush) in fall 2010 there is a need for
advisors. If there is any interest in becoming an advisor
contact
Sheila Sola
You
definitely have time to think about it but without
alumnae support of the new chapter, this effort to
re-colonize will be for not. I know many of you are
married with families or are no longer in town but any
help is welcome! Please pass this along to other
alumnae.
Those who thought they "dropped" the house in college in
all likelihood are still members in good standing as our
chapter was never good at doing paperwork :).
Regardless, I know we had smart, fun, loving women and
the house was about making friends and having a good
experience and it’s fair for college women of today to
have the same opportunity!
After the Annual Meeting we'll be posting updates on
this site and sending out an email to those contact we
have! I wish you all the best and hope you’re doing
well!!!
